KABUL: On the occasion of August 15, the anniversary of Afghanistan’s fall to the Taliban, the Women’s Historical Transformation Movement issued a statement declaring that the country has become a “silent graveyard of freedom, human dignity, and fundamental rights” for millions of citizens, particularly women and ethnic and religious minorities. The movement described the deprivation of women from education, work, and social participation as a clear violation of international documents, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and UN Security Council Resolution 1325. They characterized the suppression of free dome of expression, detention of activists, discrimination, and the imposition of extremist laws as crimes against humanity under the Rome Statute. The Window of Hope Movement condemned the forced and mass deportations of Afghan migrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Tajikistan, describing them as contrary to human rights and international refugee conventions. This movement warned that returning women and girls to Afghanistan under the Taliban’s gender apartheid conditions is akin to “returning to hell,” and such actions signify complicity with a misogynistic regime.
