KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in strategic locations at sea in response to threats from Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council and former President. These submarines are capable of carrying nuclear torpedoes. Medvedev had previously stated on the social media platform X that Trump’s deadlines are misleading and dangerous, warning that each new deadline is a step toward war. He cautioned that Russia is neither Israel nor Iran and should not be treated lightly. In his official statement, Trump described the deployment as a reaction to the “foolish and provocative” remarks made by the Russian official. He emphasized that words matter and can have unintended consequences, although he hopes for no escalation into war. Just days ago, Trump had warned Russia that it must declare a ceasefire in Ukraine within ten days, or face tariffs on Russian oil imports. Following this warning, Medvedev reacted strongly, but some analysts believe that his stance reflects not only personal opinions but also the official views of the Kremlin.
