Ukraine has launched what Moscow’s mayor described as the largest drone attack yet on the Russian capital, as Russia’s parliamentary elections entered their final day.
Russian officials said more than 1,600 drones had been intercepted since Saturday, including about 450 that were heading towards Moscow. Several drones reached the grounds of an oil refinery in the capital, while a residential building was also hit.
Russian authorities reported deaths and injuries in the Moscow region, although casualty figures have varied in early reports. Part of the Moscow oil refinery was also damaged.
Russia has said it will intensify strikes on Kyiv in response to the attacks. Ukraine has not commented on all of the Russian claims.
The attack came as Russia held parliamentary elections, the first since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
