Nargis Nehan, Afghanistan’s former minister of mines and petroleum, told the UN Security Council that Afghan women could not afford to wait another year for the international community to decide how to respond to the situation in Afghanistan.
She called on the international community to move beyond expressions of concern and take practical steps to support the rights of Afghan women and girls.
Ms Nehan also called for full funding for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and greater participation of Afghan women in shaping the country’s political future.
