US Treasury chief urges public to expose Iran’s financial networks

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged people around the world with information about Iran’s financial and commercial activities to report it to the US government.

In a post on X, Bessent said the Treasury Department had launched a new campaign aimed at cutting off the financial channels used by Iran and those supporting the Islamic Republic.

He called on anyone with actionable information about Iran’s financial and commercial networks to come forward, saying eligible informants could receive financial rewards.

The appeal comes as the Trump administration continues to increase economic pressure on Iran.

The US Treasury Department announced on 24 August that it was launching an operation known as “Economic Outcast”, aimed at disrupting Iran’s financial links around the world. The campaign targets sectors including banking, shipping, aviation and technology.
