Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has been appointed as Germany’s new head coach on a four-year contract, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann following the national team’s disappointing World Cup campaign. Nagelsmann stepped down earlier this month after Germany’s surprise defeat by Paraguay in the Round of 16. Klopp’s appointment had been widely expected for weeks, with his contract running until the end of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Speaking at his first news conference as Germany head coach, the 59-year-old said his family’s privacy would remain a priority. “If people cannot behave properly and allow my family to live in peace, I will leave. I will not continue,” Klopp told reporters. He added that he was aware national team coaches in some countries faced even greater pressure, but insisted he would have no hesitation in walking away if necessary. Klopp described the role as the pinnacle of his coaching career. “This is the highest point of my career, and I will give everything I have to make Germany successful,” he said. Klopp spent eight years at Liverpool, guiding the club to its first Premier League title in 30 years and ending a 14-year wait for UEFA Champions League glory. Born in Stuttgart, he previously managed Borussia Dortmund, leading the club to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 before reaching the UEFA Champions League final in 2013.
