Iran Rejects UN Report on Inspections of Nuclear Facilities

TEHRAN — Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, has rejected a recent UN report on inspections of nuclear facilities, describing the latest UN Security Council meeting on Iran as a “repetitive and political move” by the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Speaking to Iranian state television on Friday night, Baghaei said Tehran had no legal obligation to allow inspections of some sites. He argued that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 expired in October 2025 and that any demands based on the resolution no longer had legal standing. The comments followed a UN report stating that Iran had not granted access for inspections of facilities damaged in attacks by the United States and Israel. Baghaei also criticised the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Security Council, accusing them of failing to condemn what he described as attacks against Iran at the time they occurred. He said the current actions were largely political in nature, adding that China and Russia had also opposed this approach. The Iranian official further accused Washington of repeatedly violating its commitments in bilateral agreements, saying that “breaching agreements has become a habit for the United States.”
