US says it remains committed to the Iran deal

The US government says it remains committed to reaching a diplomatic solution with Iran despite rising tensions in the region, adding that technical talks between the two sides are continuing. A US official told the German news agency that Washington remains ready to uphold the terms of the deal, provided that Iran also meets its commitments. The official, however, described the actions of Iranian officials as “unacceptable” and said they amounted to a violation of the agreement framework. The comments come after the US carried out several strikes on targets in Iran in recent days, accusing Tehran of attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump had earlier expressed doubts about the continuation of talks with Iran, but the White House said Washington remains prepared to honour the deal if both sides fulfil their obligations. Under the deal, the Strait of Hormuz was expected to remain open for 60 days to allow the safe passage of ships. Iran, however, says it retains the right to manage maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.
