Qatar has summoned Iran’s deputy ambassador and handed him an official protest note following the targeting of the oil tanker Al-Rukiyat near the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as a serious violation of international maritime security, a threat to the global energy supply chain, and a clear breach of international law. The ministry called on Iran to immediately halt any actions that could endanger regional security, international shipping and the global energy supply, and demanded an urgent explanation over the incident. The diplomatic move comes amid growing concerns over maritime security in the strategically important waters around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments.
