Iranian state media have reported that an oil tanker was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz after it allegedly ignored repeated warnings issued by Iranian forces. According to Iran’s state broadcaster, IRIB, citing unnamed informed sources, the tanker was attempting to transit the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz through Omani waters with the support of the United States Navy. The report claims the vessel came under attack after failing to comply with repeated warnings. However, no Iranian government official has so far publicly confirmed or denied the incident. Iran had previously warned commercial vessels against using the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz through Omani waters, insisting that all maritime traffic through the strategic waterway should be coordinated with Iranian military forces.
