Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said his government will not allow any new military operations in the province.
Speaking at a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march in Khyber on Wednesday, Afridi said he would oppose policies that he believed harmed local people and would stand against any new military operation while he remained chief minister.
He claimed that the federal government had recently asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to agree to a new military operation, but said he was not prepared to support such a move.
His comments come as PTI supporters continue a march in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa calling for the release of former prime minister Imran Khan. Tensions have also grown between the provincial and federal governments over counter-terrorism policy.
