Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey have agreed to rapidly deploy agreed military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia as part of their collective defence commitments.
The decision was announced after an emergency meeting of the strategic political and defence committee of the “Mecca Defence Alliance” in Riyadh on Monday. The three countries discussed security developments and threats facing Saudi Arabia.
A joint statement said practical steps to provide and rapidly deploy the agreed forces would begin immediately, in line with approved arrangements and the national laws of the member states.
The three countries also condemned attacks targeting cities, civilian facilities and economic centres in Saudi Arabia, as well as any threat to the country’s security and territorial integrity.
The agreement comes amid heightened regional tensions and an increase in missile and drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia.
