US President Donald Trump has said the United States has destroyed nine Iranian oil tankers, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate around the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said the US had control of the Strait of Hormuz and warned that further attacks on Iran could follow.
He also said he expected the war with Iran to end immediately after the US midterm elections. Trump added that Washington could resume negotiations with Tehran, while predicting a sharp fall in oil prices after the elections.
However, he said he was not seeking a deal with Iran, arguing that the US was pursuing objectives beyond the previous nuclear agreement.
Trump also warned that if Iran acquired a nuclear weapon, it would create what he described as a major problem for the entire world.
