US Pressure Deepens Iran’s Economic Crisis as Rial Hits Record Low

US sanctions and a blockade of Iranian oil exports are putting growing pressure on Iran’s economy, according to Iranian officials and sources cited by Reuters.

The Iranian rial has fallen to record lows, while inflation is approaching 70%. Oil exports have also dropped sharply, from around 1.7 million barrels per day to about 260,000 barrels per day.

The worsening economic situation is putting further pressure on Tehran, with declining foreign-currency reserves, rising import costs and disruptions to trade raising concerns about renewed public unrest.

Iran and the United States remain engaged in military confrontation, while diplomatic efforts to ease tensions continue.
