Qatar has accused Iran of bearing full legal responsibility for attacks on its territory and has called for compensation for all damages caused, in letters sent to the United Nations and the UN Security Council. The letters state that Iran targeted a Qatari oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz on 7 July, followed by missile attacks against Qatar on 12 and 17 July. Qatari officials said three people, including a child, were injured in the 12 July attack after debris from intercepted missiles fell in residential areas. Qatar described what it called “Iranian aggression” as a clear violation of its national sovereignty and a direct threat to its security and territorial integrity. The Qatari government said it would not hesitate to take any necessary and appropriate measures to defend its sovereignty, security and the lives of its citizens. Iran, meanwhile, has repeatedly said that its attacks in the region have targeted US military bases and American forces stationed in those countries.
