Iranian authorities say a naval officer was killed in a US air strike on the southern port city of Jask on Sunday, as officials also announced new casualties from earlier attacks in Bushehr and Bandar Abbas. Mohammad Heydari, director general of Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, said Hamidreza Dehghani, a third lieutenant in the Iranian Navy’s Marine Corps, was killed in Sunday’s strike on Jask. Heydari also said that 60 people had so far been killed in Bushehr Province “while safeguarding the country’s security”. According to him, 37 of the dead have been buried in the province, while the bodies of 23 others were transferred to other provinces for funeral and burial ceremonies. Separately, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported on Sunday that the funeral of Second Sergeant Alireza Zarei Sani, a member of the Iranian Air Force, was held in the city of Bardaskan in Razavi Khorasan Province. IRNA, without providing further details, said he was killed during US strikes on Bandar Abbas on 8 and 9 July.
