Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, says Tehran and the United States have reached understandings on a significant number of issues under discussion, but added that it is still too early to speak of a final and imminent agreement. Speaking at a news conference on Monday , Baghaei said recent developments were the result of several weeks of talks conducted through Pakistan’s mediation. He added that the main focus of the negotiations is currently on ending the war and reducing tensions, and that details related to the nuclear file are not being discussed at this stage. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also criticised what he described as repeated changes in the positions of US officials, saying such a trend could complicate any negotiations. In another part of his remarks, Baghaei said Iran and Oman are working on a joint mechanism to ensure the safe movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Baghaei, Iran does not intend to impose charges on ships using the route, and costs related to navigation services and environmental protection should not be interpreted as “fees”. Meanwhile, Marco Rubio has said that an agreement to end the conflict with Iran could be reached even “today”, but added that Washington would not rush into what he described as a “bad deal”.
