EU foreign policy chief says global powers prefer dealing with European countries individually rather than as a united bloc Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, has warned that the United States, China and Russia would prefer Europe to remain divided. According to reports by Anadolu Agency, she made the remarks during the Lennart Meri Conference held in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Kallas said: “They do not like the European Union; that is quite clear. If we stay united and act together, then we will be at the level of other global powers; we are strong.” She added that concerns remain in Europe over the long-term commitment of Washington to the continent’s security, and said major powers prefer engaging with European countries individually rather than dealing with a unified bloc. According to Kallas, such an approach is part of a “divide and rule” strategy, and member states of the European Union should resist pressures that could weaken European unity. The remarks come amid ongoing discussions over US security policies and the future of NATO, while some reports have also suggested possible reductions or redeployments of American forces in Europe.
