The United States Department of State said the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel has been extended for another 45 days following a new round of negotiations in Washington. According to a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, intensive and constructive talks were held on May 14 and 15 between Lebanese and Israeli delegations hosted by the United States. Under the agreement, the ceasefire, which began on April 16, will remain in place for an additional 45 days to allow room for political progress. The spokesperson said political negotiations are expected to resume in early June, while separate security talks involving military delegations from both countries are scheduled to begin on May 29 at the Pentagon. The statement said the negotiations aim to strengthen lasting peace, respect national sovereignty, and ensure security along shared borders. The Lebanese embassy in Washington also said the discussions had resulted in tangible diplomatic progress in Lebanon’s favor and that the extension of the ceasefire would provide relief for civilians and help reinforce stability. However, reports indicate that tensions in the region continue, with new Israeli air strikes also reported inside Lebanese territory.
