Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, said during a meeting with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar that Iran would continue fulfilling what he described as its historic responsibility to safeguard security in the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi wrote on X that he discussed regional developments with Jaishankar on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign ministers from the BRICS countries in India. He said Iran remains a reliable partner for all “friendly nations” that depend on secure trade routes. India’s foreign minister also said in a statement that he had discussed the situation in West Asia and its consequences with Araghchi. The meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in India comes amid continuing tensions between the United States and Iran.
