French President Emmanuel Macron has described Iran’s recent attacks on infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates as “unjustified and unacceptable”. Writing on his X account on Monday night, he said France would continue its efforts to support its allies in the UAE and the region, and to defend their territory. Macron added that a lasting solution to the crisis would only be possible if the Strait of Hormuz is opened to free navigation and a strong security agreement is reached. He stressed that such an agreement must provide necessary security guarantees for countries in the region, particularly against threats related to Iran’s nuclear programme, missiles, and destabilising activities. The remarks come as no agreement appears in sight between Iran and the United States over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has said it has presented a proposal to the United States on the matter, but US President Donald Trump has said the proposal is unacceptable.
