Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, has warned that any closure of the Strait of Hormuz would be detrimental to all countries and urged the United Nations Security Council not to overlook the plight of civilians in the region. In a post on X on Tuesday evening, April 28, Barrot stated that civilians are the primary victims of war and stressed that the situation of the Iranian people must be taken into account. He added that Iranian citizens are caught between internal repression and the threat of renewed conflict, a situation he said must come to an end. The French foreign minister emphasized that the Security Council cannot ignore the humanitarian consequences of ongoing conflict in the region. His remarks come amid continuing regional tensions and growing concerns over the human and economic impacts of war.
