As U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran intensify, the rift in relations between Israel and France has deepened. According to a report by Le Monde, France has faced criticism from the United States and Israel due to its emphasis on diplomatic solutions and its efforts to prevent some aircraft carrying military equipment from passing through on their way to Israel. In the latest development, U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized Paris’s position, describing it as a lack of cooperation in military operations against Iran. However, sources told Le Monde that France has not banned all military flights, and U.S. aircraft are still allowed to pass in accordance with international law. Meanwhile, Israel has announced that it will halt arms purchases from France in an effort to increase pressure; a move that, according to Le Monde, indicates a further distancing of Tel Aviv from Paris. France, in contrast, has tried to preserve relations through a cautious and diplomacy-based approach, but this policy has so far failed to reduce tensions. These tensions had already existed and intensified after France recognized the State of Palestine in 2025. Despite the announcement to halt arms purchases, reports indicate that the impact of this decision on France will be limited, as the share of its arms exports to Israel is relatively small compared to its total global arms exports. Le Monde’s analysis shows that the main disagreement between the two sides stems from their different approaches: Israel emphasizes the military option, while France prefers diplomatic solutions.
