Trump Ready to End War With Iran Without Reopening Hormuz

The Wall Street Journal has reported that U.S. President Donald Trump has told his aides he is prepared to end the military war against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and its reopening is postponed to a later time. Trump and his team have assessed that efforts to reopen this strategic waterway could extend the conflict beyond the predicted four-to-six-week timeline. Therefore, he has decided to first pursue key objectives, including weakening Iran’s naval forces and missile stockpiles, while simultaneously increasing diplomatic pressure on Tehran to restore the free flow of trade. If diplomatic pressure does not produce results, Washington will ask its European allies and Gulf countries to take responsibility for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. These remarks come as thousands of U.S. forces, including soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division and U.S. Marines, are stationed in the Middle East, and multiple military options against Iran remain under consideration by the U.S. administration.
