U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday advised countries such as the United Kingdom, which did not participate in the war with Iran and are now facing a jet fuel supply crisis, to take action themselves. In a post on Truth Social, he wrote: “First, buy from the United States — we have plenty. Second, show courage and go to the Strait of Hormuz and take it back. You must learn to fight for yourselves; the United States will not be there anymore, just as you were not there for us. The hard work has been done. Iran is essentially destroyed; go and secure your own oil.” The sharp decline in the passage of ships and oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz following the start of the U.S. and Israeli war with Iran has caused global oil prices to rise. Iran has so far allowed only ships from certain countries, including China, India, and Pakistan, to pass and has said it will target ships belonging to its enemies and their allies. Trump had previously called on various countries, including NATO members, to cooperate in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but those countries declined to participate in the war.
