Yemen’s Houthis Officially Enter War, Claim Responsibility for Missile Attack on Israel

Yemen’s Houthi group has officially announced that it has entered the ongoing conflict, claiming responsibility for a missile attack on Israel carried out on Saturday morning, March 28. The group described the strike as its first direct military action since the outbreak of the month-long war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The Houthi military spokesperson stated that a “barrage of ballistic missiles” was launched toward Israeli military facilities in the southern West Bank. Earlier, the Israeli military confirmed that a missile launched from Yemen had been detected, and air defense systems were activated to intercept it. In an official statement, the Houthis said the attack was carried out in response to what they described as the targeting of infrastructure and the killing of civilians in Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, and Palestine. The group further stated that its military operations would continue until its declared objectives are achieved and attacks against what it called “various fronts” come to an end. This development effectively opens a new front in the conflict and has increased concerns about a possible expansion of the war into the Red Sea, which could significantly affect international shipping routes. Previously, unlike Hezbollah in Lebanon and some Iraqi armed groups, the Houthis had refrained from direct involvement in the conflict.
