German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that a war by the United States and Israel against Iran is unlikely to result in regime change. Speaking on Friday at an event in Frankfurt, Merz said that if the objective of the conflict is to change Iran’s political system, it is unlikely to succeed. Referring to past conflicts, including the war in Afghanistan, he noted that such efforts have often ended unsuccessfully. Merz also expressed serious doubts about the existence of a clear strategy and the likelihood of its successful implementation regarding Iran, warning that the conflict could last longer. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said after meeting with G7 foreign ministers in France that the United States expects its operation in Iran to be completed “within weeks, not months,” adding that Washington can achieve its objectives without deploying ground forces.
