Fazl ur Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, said that stability in Afghanistan will not be possible as long as Pakistani authorities believe Afghanistan must remain under their influence and that no government should be formed there without their approval. Speaking at a press conference in Dera Ismail Khan, he said Pakistan should focus on a free, stable, and independent Afghanistan and turn past efforts into successful results. He added that Afghanistan is not just the name of a government or the “Islamic Emirate,” but the name of its people, and decisions should be made based on the will of the Afghan people, not external pressure. He also stressed that constant regime change and foreign interference have caused instability, and that Pakistan should act cautiously and keep parliament informed of major decisions. His remarks come as Pakistani airstrikes and border clashes with the Taliban have entered their fifth week, with both sides claiming heavy casualties, though the figures have not been independently verified.
