Nasir Ahmad Faiaq, Acting Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, says the Taliban have violated human and Islamic principles by keeping educational institutions closed to girls. Writing on X on Friday (March 27), Faiaq stated that over the past five years, the Taliban have kept the doors of schools and higher education institutions closed to girls and women. He described the move as “contrary to human principles, Islamic teachings, and the rulings of Sharia,” adding that the decision was made by a group that calls itself seekers of knowledge, but in practice, he said, it has led to the defamation of Islam, worsening of the country’s problems, and the continuation of ignorance. According to Faiaq, this approach has resulted in increased poverty, reduced scientific and educational capacity, and greater dependence of Afghanistan on regional countries and the international community. He concluded by describing the decision as a “national and irreversible betrayal.”
