The United States Department of State has urged American citizens around the world, especially in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution. In a statement, the department said that Americans abroad should follow the security guidelines and warnings issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. The statement noted that U.S. diplomatic facilities, even outside the Middle East, have been targeted in attacks, and “Iran-backed groups” may target other U.S.-related interests and locations, as well as American citizens, in different parts of the world. The warning comes as tensions and conflicts between Iran, the United States, and Israel continue to escalate.
