U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States and Iran have held “very good and constructive talks” over the past two days regarding a comprehensive resolution to hostilities in the Middle East. Trump wrote on Monday (March 23) on Truth Social that, based on the tone and content of the talks, he had instructed the Department of Defense to postpone any military attack on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure for five days. He added that the decision depends on the outcome of the ongoing negotiations and will be extended if progress continues. Meanwhile, Iran has not yet confirmed that such talks have taken place. Trump had previously given Iran 48 hours to keep the Strait of Hormuz open without threats, warning that otherwise the country’s energy infrastructure would be targeted. In response, Iran said that if any action is taken against it, it would target Israeli power facilities and some oil facilities in the region.
