Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, has once again been elected as Chairman of State Affairs following the ruling party’s victory in the country’s parliamentary elections. Reuters, citing North Korea’s state media KCNA, reported on Monday, March 23, that the decision was made during the first session of the Supreme People’s Assembly. According to the report, the session, which was held one week after the parliamentary elections, took place on Sunday in Pyongyang. Key issues discussed included amendments and additions to the socialist constitution, the election of the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, and other senior state leadership positions. It is also expected that, in addition to appointing senior government officials, the assembly will discuss and make decisions regarding amendments to the socialist constitution. Meanwhile, reports indicate that North Korea’s five-year economic plan, which had previously been announced at the ruling party congress, will also be reviewed during the session. North Korea’s parliamentary elections were held last week, and the ruling party led by Kim Jong Un won all seats in parliament.
