Israeli media reported that the Haifa oil refinery was targeted in a missile attack by Iran. According to Israel’s Channel 12, missile fragments caused damage to two buildings and several vehicles at the refinery. Images released by the outlet showed a column of smoke rising from the site of the attack. Iranian media stated that the strike was carried out in response to Israeli attacks on the South Pars oil facilities in Iran. Reports also indicated that power outages affected parts of Haifa following the attack. Israel’s Energy Minister, Eli Cohen, said electricity had been restored in some areas, while efforts were ongoing to reconnect the remaining areas. He also emphasized that the damage to the refinery was not significant and that there was no risk of hazardous material leakage. A day earlier, Israel had targeted phases three to six of the South Pars gas refinery. In response, Iran warned that it could target five additional refineries in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. One reported strike hit the Ras Laffan industrial facilities in Qatar, leading to the expulsion of two Iranian diplomats. The attack on oil facilities has raised concerns about escalating tensions in the region, with fears that the conflict could expand to other Middle Eastern countries.
