Andrika Ratwatte, the head of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, says ensuring access to education remains a critical priority. In a post on X, Ratwatte wrote that the learning spaces established by UNICEF represent an important investment. According to him, these spaces help children continue their education and learning despite ongoing challenges. This comes as girls in Afghanistan have been barred from education beyond the sixth grade for more than four years. During this period, human rights organizations, international bodies including the United Nations, and various governments have repeatedly called for the restoration of girls’ right to education in Afghanistan. However, there is still no clear prospect for the resumption of girls’ education in the country.
