United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has said that Muslims around the world face discrimination, social and economic exclusion, and biased migration policies. In a message on Sunday, March 15, Guterres wrote that in addition to discrimination, Muslims are sometimes placed under surveillance without clear reasons and are subjected to unwarranted investigations. Referring to the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, he said, “Let us once again commit to equality, human rights, and the dignity of every person, regardless of their religion.” Guterres has previously emphasized the need for lasting peace, reducing global tensions, and eliminating discrimination. He has also noted that the United Nations Charter serves as the foundation for relations among nations and as a guide for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
