Officials from the Taliban traffic department in Laghman Province say that since the start of the 1404 solar year, 80 traffic accidents have been recorded in the province, leaving 284 people dead or injured. Wahibullah Mobarez, the Taliban’s traffic director in Laghman, said during a press conference that 70 people were killed and 214 others were injured in these incidents. According to him, 20 women were among those killed, while 48 women were among the injured. He added that a number of children were also among the victims, though exact figures were not provided. Mobarez said most of the accidents occurred along the Kabul–Jalalabad Highway, in Mehtarlam, and in several other districts of Laghman. He did not specify the exact causes of the accidents. However, in Afghanistan, poor road conditions, lack of traffic signs, and driver negligence are commonly cited as major factors behind traffic incidents.
