The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed responsibility for downing a U.S. military refueling aircraft in western Iraq. According to a report by Reuters on Friday, March 13, the group said it targeted the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker “in defense of Iraq’s sovereignty and airspace.” International media had earlier reported the aircraft’s crash on Thursday. Meanwhile, the United States Central Command confirmed that four people were killed in the incident, but stressed that the crash was not caused by enemy fire.
