Rahmatullah Nabil, former head of Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security, has criticized the visit of Pakistani cleric Fazlur Rahman Khalil to Kabul for talks with the Taliban, describing it as a bitter moment for a country with an ancient history. Writing on X (Twitter), Nabil said it was troubling that a figure previously placed on sanctions lists could travel to Afghanistan to negotiate with the Taliban, a group that is also under sanctions by several countries. He noted that (TTP) is listed as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, questioning the nature of such negotiations. Nabil also argued that the situation reflects the longstanding role of Pakistan’s military establishment in supporting extremist networks and said the development goes beyond a routine political process.
