The United Nations has expressed concern over the growing number of displaced people in Lebanon following large-scale evacuation orders issued by Israel in several areas of the country. According to a report by Reuters, a UN official said that around 100,000 people have so far taken shelter in 477 collective shelters, many of which are rapidly reaching their full capacity. Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified in recent days. The Israeli military has ordered residents of the southern suburbs of Beirut, as well as those living in the Bekaa Valley and southern regions of Lebanon, to evacuate their areas. The United Nations has warned that humanitarian resources are extremely limited. Of the $1.6 billion requested for Lebanon’s humanitarian response in 2026, only about 20 percent has been secured so far. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks during the current week have killed 123 people and injured 683 others. The United Nations has also called for an immediate de-escalation of violence and urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law.
