China has set another record by completing the world’s longest mountain tunnel, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation in the region. The tunnel, known as the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, was built at a cost of approximately $3.8 billion and took five years to complete. The tunnel passes through mountainous terrain and includes a vertical shaft measuring 1,112 meters in length. It is also equipped with dedicated emergency exit routes, cross passages, advanced monitoring control rooms, and ventilation shafts designed for air purification and safety. The Tianshan Shengli Tunnel features four traffic lanes—two in each tube—and significantly reduces travel time. A route that previously required about seven hours of driving around the mountains can now be completed in just 20 minutes. With the completion of the tunnel, access to Yuli County has become significantly faster and more convenient.
