Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States, will step down at the end of this month following growing criticism of her tenure. Donald Trump said he plans to nominate Markwayne Mullin as her replacement and submit his nomination to the Senate. Criticism intensified after two American citizens were shot dead by federal agents in Minneapolis, after Noem initially described them as “domestic terrorists,” a claim later disputed by video evidence. Her leadership at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security also faced bipartisan criticism, including controversy over a $220 million advertising campaign. Prior to her resignation, some Democratic lawmakers had begun impeachment efforts, while several Republicans called for her removal.
