Donald Trump, President of the United States, said Washington should play a role in determining the next leader of Iran. In an interview with Axios, Trump described Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as an “unacceptable” option for the country’s future leadership. “We want someone who can bring coordination and stability to Iran,” he said. Trump also said in a phone interview with Reuters on Thursday that he supports Kurdish attacks against Iran. “I think it’s great that they want to do it. I fully support it,” he said. When asked whether the United States would provide air support for such operations or had offered to do so, Trump replied: “I can’t tell you that.” Earlier, the White House rejected reports claiming that Trump was considering arming Kurdish groups for potential attacks on Iran. Meanwhile, U.S. and Israel strikes on Iran have intensified, with images circulating of widespread destruction in Tehran. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates has declared a state of emergency nationwide, while explosions have also been reported in Bahrain and Qatar.
