World Leaders urge diplomacy to prevent civilian harm in border conflict between Kabul-Islamabad

KABUL/ISLAMABAD: The United Kingdom, the United Nations, Russia, Iran, and China have expressed concern over the sharp rise in tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan. Yvette Cooper called for an immediate halt to the attacks and urged all sides to prevent harm to civilians. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the need to protect civilians and uphold international obligations, particularly international humanitarian law. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov urged both sides to immediately cease hostilities and resolve their differences through negotiations, adding that Moscow is ready to mediate. Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi called on the Taliban and Pakistan to manage their disputes through diplomacy and within the framework of good neighborly relations, saying Iran stands ready to facilitate dialogue. China also voiced concern, calling for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation, and said it is prepared to play a constructive role in calming the situation.
