Iran-U.S. talks in Geneva show positive outlook as regional tensions persist

GENEVA: As the Iranian delegation arrived in Geneva for a third round of negotiations with the United States, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said there is a “positive outlook” for the talks. Iranian media reported that Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi is leading the delegation, with discussions scheduled for Thursday, February 26. The talks come as the United States has deployed a large naval fleet in waters south of Iran, raising the possibility of military action should President Donald Trump decide to pursue that course. Pezeshkian said Tehran has sought to manage the negotiation process under the guidance of the country’s supreme leadership to avoid slipping into a “no war, no peace” situation. Iran’s foreign minister added that an agreement with Washington is “within reach,” but only if diplomacy remains the priority. The United States and Israel have expressed concern over Iran’s nuclear program, viewing it as a potential threat to Israeli security. Tehran, however, maintains that its nuclear activities are peaceful, even as uranium enrichment levels have approached those needed for a nuclear weapon.
