BERLIN: A 35-year-old Afghan man injured three people in a knife attack early Sunday at the entrance of the central train station in Würzburg, located in the state of Bavaria, authorities said. The incident occurred near a stand operated by Jehovah’s Witnesses, a Christian religious group founded in the late 19th century in the United States. According to police, the attacker first approached a 68-year-old man who was overseeing the stand and suddenly stabbed him multiple times. Two other men were also injured during the incident. Police said the victims sustained superficial injuries and no deep stab wounds were reported. Several passersby, including an off-duty police officer in civilian clothes intervened and restrained the suspect until backup forces arrived. The man is currently in custody. German media reported that the motive behind the attack remains unclear, though investigators are treating the case as an attempted homicide. Authorities have not yet determined whether the suspect deliberately targeted members of Jehovah’s Witnesses or acted with another motive.
