HERAT: The provincial officials of the Taliban in Badghis province said that at least 9 people have died and 35 others have been injured in a traffic incident on the Badghis-Herat highway. According to Sediqullah Sediqi, police spokesman of the Taliban in Badghis, the accident occurred around 11 AM on Sunday, in the Sabzk area of the sixth security district of Qala-i-Naw city, when a bus type “404” traveling from Herat to Qala-i-Naw veered off the road and overturned. Sediqi attributed the cause of the accident to the driver’s “negligence” and mentioned that women and children are among the deceased and injured, although the exact number of their injuries is not yet clear. He added that some of the injured are in critical condition. He also noted that the wounded have been transferred to nearby medical facilities and that investigations into the incident have begun. Traffic accidents frequently occur on Afghanistan’s highways. The main factors behind traffic accidents are poor road conditions, aging vehicles, and driver negligence.
