Afghan Women’s Group says social justice impossible without women’s participation

KABUL: The Afghanistan Women’s Freedom and Thought Foundation said on Thursday that social justice in Afghanistan cannot be achieved without equality and the meaningful participation of women, marking World Day of Social Justice with a statement warning of deep disparities in the country. In its statement, the foundation said there is a wide gap between the principles of social justice and the lived reality of Afghan citizens. It cited widespread deprivation of education particularly for girls and women restrictions on the right to work and social participation, poverty, unemployment, and the systematic exclusion of large segments of society as clear manifestations of social injustice. The group stressed that social justice is impossible without equality, human dignity, and the participation of women and marginalized communities. Ignoring these principles, it said, not only undermines human dignity but also poses serious risks to the country’s future. The foundation warned that silence in the face of injustice amounts to normalizing oppression and said responsibility for ensuring social justice does not rest solely with governments. Civil society, media, intellectuals, and informed citizens all share responsibility for the collective future, it added. The statement called solidarity with victims of discrimination, defense of girls’ right to education, support for women’s right to work, and resistance against social exclusion are essential steps toward restoring social justice. The foundation also urged the international community and global human rights organizations to take practical measures, including sustained support for education, targeted humanitarian aid, and creating real opportunities for equal participation — to help pave the way toward social justice in Afghanistan.
