CHARIKAR: The Taliban’s provincial Directorate of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Parwan said it has collected and burned nearly 500 musical instruments seized from various districts of the province. According to Mawlavi Maqbool Ahmad Waqqas, head of the department, the instruments were destroyed after being gathered in the Gulghundi area in the presence of local officials, intelligence representatives, and other relevant authorities. He said the action was carried out as part of efforts to combat what the Taliban describes as “moral corruption,” and urged citizens to refrain from using musical instruments deemed contrary to Islamic law. The Parwan provincial governor’s press office said that hundreds of musical instruments and related equipment have been seized over the past year. The move is part of broader restrictions imposed on artistic and musical activities across Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power. Local sources say the measures have led to the suspension of artistic activities and forced many musicians to abandon their work or leave the country.
