RIYADH: Saudi club Al Nassr has announced that Brazilian women’s team player Kathellen Sousa has converted to Islam, an announcement that was warmly welcomed by her teammates. The club shared a video of the moment on social media, showing players celebrating Sousa’s declaration. “We share with you a special moment in Kathellen Sousa’s life, her announcement of embracing Islam and we ask God to grant her peace and steadfastness of heart,” the club wrote. In the video, Sousa said: “I was simply trying to find the right path and become the best version of myself.” The 29-year-old defender previously played for Inter Milan Women and wore the shirt of Real Madrid Women from 2022 to 2024. She has since joined Al Nassr and is also a member of the Brazil women’s national football team. Sousa began playing football at a young age in Brazil, had a brief spell with youth teams at Santos FC, and later moved to the United States to pursue her education. She studied and played football at the University of Louisville and the University of Central Florida.
