TEHRAN: As the second round of nuclear talks between Iran and the United States ended in Geneva, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei responded to threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, warning that even “The world’s strongest army might sometimes take a blow that it cannot recover from.” Khamenei added, “They constantly say we have sent a naval fleet toward Iran. A ship is dangerous, but what is even more dangerous is the weapon that can sink that ship to the bottom of the sea.” He referred to Trump’s comments about the inability of the U.S. to destroy the Islamic Republic over 47 years, asserting, “You also will not be able to accomplish this.” Regarding the nuclear negotiations, Khamenei emphasized that pre-determining the outcome of the discussions is “foolish” and stated, “If negotiations are to take place, determining the outcome in advance is wrong.” The second round of nuclear talks between Iran and the U.S., facilitated by Oman, concluded today in Geneva. The U.S. has repeatedly asserted that it will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and that failure to reach an agreement would result in a severe response for Iran. Additionally, the U.S. has deployed two aircraft carriers to the region.
